Meet the technology behind metalstack.cloud

Bare-metal automation enabling Kubernetes, alternative orchestrators, and more.
What powers our technology

The core of metalstack.cloud: metal-stack

At the heart of metalstack.cloud is metal-stack – our open-source bare-metal API.

It combines hardware provisioning, network automation, and lifecycle management into one lean control plane.

metal-stack is designed to work beyond Kubernetes – supporting alternative orchestrators, bare-metal environments, and diverse infrastructure setups.

With metal-stack, processes are reduced from days to minutes:

New clusters in 6 minutes

Fully automated from provisioning to operation via the Bare-Metal API

Firewall rules in 1 second

Instantly apply new rules – securely, consistently, and without service interruption.

OS patching in 3 minutes

Fast, reliable OS updates – no downtime, full control.

Develop together, use transparently

Open code base

The entire development of metal-stack is completely open source and available on GitHub. This allows anyone interested to view the code, contribute their own ideas, or contribute directly to the projects. The code base is modular and includes central components such as metal-api for machine management, metal-hammer for bootstrapping bare metal servers, and various operators and tools for operating Kubernetes clusters on bare metal.

More than Kubernetes

The architecture

To achieve this speed and flexibility, metal-stack relies on an open, modular architecture.

It combines powerful bare-metal hardware with a flexible cloud-native platform – optimized for Kubernetes but not limited to it.

This allows you to seamlessly integrate a wide range of technologies and workloads while retaining full control.

With our modular architecture, you can integrate different technologies – from Kubernetes to custom platform solutions – and remain fully independent of vendor lock-in.

mini-lab: Virtual setup for testing metal-stack locally

The mini-lab is a small, virtual setup to locally run the metal-stack. It deploys the metal control plane and a metal-stack partition with two simulated leaf switches. The lab can be used for trying out metal-stack, demonstration purposes or development.
